On his way to the fair, the child is fascinated by various things:

• Toys: He sees toys displayed in shops lining the way and is tempted by them.
• Nature: He is attracted to the natural environment, including fields of flowering mustard, dragonflies, butterflies, and birds.
• Street Performers and Food Stalls: The child is captivated by snake charmers and the sweets being sold at stalls.

The child lags behind because he is easily distracted by these sights and sounds. He keeps stopping to look at and, if possible, interact with the various attractions along the path to the fair.
